IRW (Interdisziplinäres Zentrum für Wissenschaftliches Rechnen) Heidelberg is organizing a one week course on DUNE (The Distributed and Unified Numerics Environment). DUNE is a software framework for the numerical solution of partial differential equations with grid-based methods. If you are interested, please register at http://conan.iwr.uni-heidelberg.de/dune-workshop/.
Christmas party of our study program
Core hours in the National supercomputing facility IT4Innovations
Teams lead by Jaroslav Hron and Martin Řehoř succeeded in the grant competion on computer time in the national supercomputing facility IT4Innovations. Team lead by Jaroslav Hron got 100 000 core hours for project “Blood flow simulation in a patient specific geometry”, Martin Řehoř and his team got 50 000 core hours for project “Flows driven by diffuse interface models”. Congratulations and we are looking forward to nice results!
Habilitation lecture
On Wednesday, 4th December, Martin Kružík will give his habilitation lecture “Relaxation in the calculus of variation”. You are all invited. See the invitation for details.
Open day
On Thursday 28th November Faculty of Mathematics and Physics organizes Open day. During the Open day you can get a lot of information on studying at Faculty of Mathematics and Physics, you can also meet face to face representatives of various study programs (including mathematical modeling), and, last but not least you can attend some popular science lectures. In particular, Ondřej Souček is going to give lecture “Nejdéle trvající vědecký experiment aneb ač se vleče, přece teče…”. The lecture will take place in lecture hall F2 and starts at 3:40 PM.
Detailed schedule is available at the faculty web pages.
Seminar on geodynamics: Miroslav Kuchta and Mikael Mortensen
SEMINAR ON GEODYNAMICS (for more details see http://geo.mff.cuni.cz/seminarGeod.htm)
On 13.11.2013 presents:
| 14:00 | Miroslav Kuchta (Department of Mathematics, University of Oslo): Eikonal equation on unstructured meshes |
| 15:40 | Mikael Mortensen (Department of Mathematics, University of Oslo): FEniCS and its application in biomedical computing |
Informal session to mark the beginning of the winter semester
The traditional informal session to mark the beginning of the winter semester will take place in Pivnice Kachna a Koráb on Monday, 21st October at 17:30. (The entrance to the pub is from Sokolovská street via an outdoor staircase, see the webpage of the pub.)
We are looking forward to meet all our students, lecturers, postdocs, and our “fans” in the pub.
Student research projects
Charles University Grant Agency has opened a call for student research projects, deadline for proposal submission is on November 20. (Note that the internal deadline at the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics is on November 13.) Check university web pages for details.
Preciosa and Faculty of Mathematics and Physics have opened a call for student research projects. See faculty webpages for details.
Thesis topics – plasma physics
Professor Hrach is offering two diploma thesis topics in the field of plasma physics, see the attached document for details.
Computer modeling of the inner ear
Professor Pavel Jungwirth offers to interested students an exciting project aimed at computer modelling of the process of hearing in the inner ear. In collaboration with the Austrian company Medel, which produces cochlear implants, his group is developing a Matlab model of linear electric circuits, which describes the formation of the acoustic signal and its transduction into the brain.
