Regularity theory for elliptic and parabolic systems and problems in continuum mechanics (May 1-3 2014)

Since 2010 Nadační fond na podporu vědy NEURON (NEURON Endowment Fund to Support Science) provides grants for scientists working in the Czech Republic. In 2012 NEURON junior research grant was awarded to Miroslav Bulíček for research concerning regularity of solutions to partial differential equations. The meeting Regularity theory for elliptic and parabolic systems and problems in continuum mechanics is organized as a part of this junior research project. The aim of the meeting is to bring together researchers working in the field of regularity of partial differential equations with a particular emphasis on partial differential equations stemming from continuum mechanics.

The meeting will take place in Telč form 1st May 2014 till 3rd May 2014, confirmed speakers are:

Christmas party of our study program

Christmas party of our study program will be held Wednesday, December 18, 2013 in the auditorium K1 (Sokolovska 83) from 18:00.

The whole event, as usual, is organized by students of the 4th year.

You will find yourself in a good mood, with refreshments and singing Christmas carols….

Core hours in the National supercomputing facility IT4Innovations

Teams lead by Jaroslav Hron and Martin Řehoř succeeded in the grant competion on computer time in the national supercomputing facility IT4Innovations. Team lead by Jaroslav Hron got 100 000 core hours for project “Blood flow simulation in a patient specific geometry”, Martin Řehoř and his team got 50 000 core hours for project “Flows driven by diffuse interface models”. Congratulations and we are looking forward to nice results!

Open day

On Thursday 28th November Faculty of Mathematics and Physics organizes Open day. During the Open day you can get a lot of information on studying at Faculty of Mathematics and Physics, you can also meet face to face representatives of various study programs (including mathematical modeling), and, last but not least you can attend some popular science lectures. In particular, Ondřej Souček is going to give lecture “Nejdéle trvající vědecký experiment aneb ač se vleče, přece teče…”. The lecture will take place in lecture hall F2 and starts at 3:40 PM.

Detailed schedule is available at the faculty web pages.

Informal session to mark the beginning of the winter semester

The traditional informal session to mark the beginning of the winter semester will take place in Pivnice Kachna a Koráb on Monday, 21st October at 17:30. (The entrance to the pub is from Sokolovská street via an outdoor staircase, see the webpage of the pub.)

We are looking forward to meet all our students, lecturers, postdocs, and our “fans” in the pub.
